A Royal Honeymoon Spa Day

By Lauren Gerzina & Justin Hayes

Another Large Shipment, Treating Ourselves, and A Bougie Steak Dinner

We finally slept in! Until like 7:30am . . . yea, I know I know. Morning people, am I right?

For breakfast, we took a Grab to the northwest side of town to a restaurant called Food 4 Thought that had some gluten free options for Justin. We had some amazing coffee “cocktails” (with no alcohol). Justin had an espresso and tonic drink and another with orange oil. Lauren had an espresso drink with ginger and something else we can’t remember, and then she got a hot chocolate that was very hot. The food was also good, but the drinks were amazing.

After breakfast, we headed back to the Airbnb to grab a bunch of stuff to ship back to the U.S. We put everything in some plastic bags and took a Grab to a DHL. All told, we had another 16 kg worth of stuff in a huge box. It was another $300 USD to ship everything but totally worth it for what we were sending home (and to not have to lug it around).

Now that we were full of food in our bellies and less stuff in our luggage, it was time to head to our bougie 5+ hour spa day at Zira Spa at 1pm. Lauren has always wanted to do a full spa day, but they are quite expensive in the U.S. In Chiang Mai, this was expensive for Thailand standards, but way cheaper than what we would pay for a similar experience at home.

Our spa included a foot wash, body scrub and wrap, reflexology foot massage, back and shoulder massage, Thai herbal ball hot compress, jacuzzi bath, a hot aromatherapy oil massage, and a facial/head massage. Overall it was a pretty great experience. Lauren was freezing during the body scrub as the A/C was going full blast and the scrub was cold. Justin did not like the body wrap as his claustrophobia kicked in pretty quickly. Otherwise, it was quite relaxing.

Our jacuzzi bath included some mango sticky rice and other Thai desserts with coconut water on some wooden trays. We enjoyed the snack, even though it was a little hard/awkward to eat in the tub. Our spa experience ended at around 6pm, so we were pretty hungry (since we did not eat lunch).

After a quick stop back at the Airbnb, we walked over to a restaurant in a bougie hotel nearby called The Service 1921 (named after the British Secret Service as the hotel was once the location of the British Consulate). We each got some delicious cocktails and shared a scallop appetizer and some delicious steak.

Once we finished dinner, we headed over to their rooftop bar called Bubbles and had another drink while we enjoyed some more floating lanterns (although not nearly as many as the night before) in the sky above. We would later learn that on the previous night, a building in Chiang Mai caught fire. So we were unsurprised that it seemed the police were cracking down.

We finished our drinks and walked back to the Airbnb to turn in for the evening since we had an early start the next day for one of our most anticipated excursions.
