A Much Less Eventful Day in Siem Reap

By Lauren Gerzina & Justin Hayes

Smoothie Bowls, Italian Food, and More Gelato

Compared to the previous day, today was uneventful, but a much-needed chill day.

We woke up and had a lovely breakfast at a restaurant called Sister Srey Café, which had a bunch of merch and signs about the Apopo Center we visited the day before. Lauren had some tasty corn fritters and Justin had a dragon fruit and banana smoothie bowl that satisfied his sweet tooth.

After breakfast, we walked to a coffee place that advertised fast WiFi called the BioLab. We went there to work on the blog and hopefully upload some photos since the hotel WiFi was so bad. We then walked over to a Supermarket (which we were told was mostly used by Westerners) to grab some more insect repellant and sunscreen.

We were craving some non-Khmer food for lunch, so we took a tuk tuk over to an Italian place that had gluten-free pasta near the laundry shop so we could grab a bite and then pick up our clean clothes. It was actually very good and a nice palate cleanser.

We walked over to grab our laundry, then took a tuk tuk back to our hotel to drop it off. We chilled at the hotel a bit, packed up our clothes for our upcoming travels to Phnom Penh, and took one last dip in the pool.

We grabbed dinner at a restaurant called Sambo Khmer and Thai food nearish to a night market. Lauren got some Thai coconut soup with chicken (Tom Ka Ga) and Justin got a Khmer Red Curry. They also had an amazing watermelon mojito mocktail.

Lauren found out where Haven had sourced its delicious gelato, so we walked across the river toward the shop, which was near Pub Street. Justin got dark chocolate and strawberry sorbet and Lauren got dark chocolate and passionfruit sorbet. It was some of the best dark chocolate sorbet we’ve ever had.

After dessert, it was back to the hotel to finish up any last minute packing and get some sleep before our 8am private car pick up to Phnom Penh.
